Naming update: It seems the names we are now homing in on are "Ellie" and "Michael." Stay tuned.

As you can see from the photos, this was a special Christmas for Santa in Devil's Thumb. What you don't see is Santa's glasses getting all fogged up and pulling down on his beard when he tried to take them off. Nor do you see the embarrassment of Santa showing up without his (temporarily lost) hat or all the pine needles hopelessly tangled in his hair and beard from the incident of swooping too low under a tree searching for the lost Santa hat. In all, it was a very entertaining Christmas.
And isn't that a lovely dress that Mia got from Mrs. Claus?

- Maine 2006
Trip to Portland, Maine, Camden, Freeport and surrounding areas. Only one state has more lighthouses than Maine and that's Michigan!!
- Utrecht: October 2006
This city has more than its share of rain and quaint. It looks like it would really be fun if the rain ever stops and they can use the outside seating at the hundreds of little restaurants and bars. The Nederlands Film Festival is in progress, but, after a little thought, that didn't seem like a good thing to attend after all unless they already have the subtitles. Had one Dutch specialty meal so far; I don't think Italian cooking is threatened.
- Kauai Trip September 2006
Most of the pictures are from the Catamaran trip up the Na Pali Coast, parts of which can only be reached by boat or helicopter. We saw sea turtles, flying fish, and a pod of dolphins swan along the boat with us for a while -- putting on quite a show. There were mountain goats along the cliffs and the scenery was spectacular -- miles and miles of beautiful empty beaches below the huge cliffs. Franny was accused of being "craazy" for riding on the front of the catamaran pontoon as it pounded through the swells.
It's hard to get a sense of the scale, but, in the photo of the "Cathedral Formation," there are a couple campers standing on a rock in the green area behind the beach in the center. That gives you some idea of the size of the waterfall on the right and the cliffs behind. (If you click on slideshow, it will show the photos full screen, then you can pause on the ones you like.)
A few photos at the end were taken in and near Hanalae and the final one is at St. Raphaels Catholic Church near Poipu where we stayed.

- Grape Growing Stages
Comparisons of grapes growing at Balistreri Vinyards and at La Casa Di Domenico at different times in the growing season. As you will see, there is quite a bit of foliage, but only one measly bunch of grapes in the 2005 La Casa Di Domenico vintage. Interesting to compare Balistreri vines in early July with La Casa Di Domenico vines development from early July through August. Clearly some education on pruning is needed. Note the new vine discovered in August at the northernmost hectare.
We had to bolster the local harvest with some additions from California. This is the first experience using wine grape juice to start with. As you can see, it's much simpler and considerably less messy than working with the grapes.

- Domenico Reunion Photos WITH Names
This album illustrates our effort to attach names to the many faces at the reunion. We especially need to do this for the younger generations who have never met each other.
- Domenico Family Reunion 2005
Held at Clement Park. About 235 descendants of Nicola and Lucia Di Domenico showed up -- many from around the country. Also had cousins from Toronto and Akron (in grey tee shirts) who trace their lineage back to brother and sister of Nicola. There are also a few pictures of Angelina and Pierino Rossi's visit to Boulder the next day. The green shirts were Frank Domenico's side of the family.

OK - sure hope this helps - and hope I didn't miss anybody or misspell names. Not all of the Molliconi family was there or this picture would have been super huge!! We were missing several family members that day for whatever reason and some had not yet arrived at the time the picture was taken on the stage. But this is a pretty good showing, I think.

- Family Immigrant Ships Pictures and Passenger Manifests
Benedetto Cosimi and (we think) Benedetto Proietti came to the US on the Ancona, arriving in New York, July 13, 1912. In the manifest, Ben Cosimi is line 21. The name on line 16 is hard to read but the line has information that looks like it would belong to Ben Proietti (e.g. wife: Cosimi, Maria). The manifests for Nicola Di Domenico's trip on the Trojan Prince in 1901 and Jeremiah Desmond's voyage from Ireland on the Coronia in 1907 are also included. To view the details of an image, you need to use the "download original" option, then view the image on your own computer with a program that let's you enlarge the images.
Notes on subsequent history of the Ancona follow:
The Italian liner Ancona was torpedoed and destroyed by an Austrian U-boat off the coast of Sardinia in early November 1915. The ship had made regular runs between Naples and New York City, serving the needs of thousands of immigrants headed to America. Some dispute remains about whether the Ancona received and heeded an order to halt. The ship was struck twice by torpedoes that set off an internal explosion. The Ancona went down so rapidly that it was impossible to deploy lifeboats properly. New York newspapers issued heavy coverage of this event, which included lists of survivors and reports of passengers who claimed that as they struggled in the water, they were fired upon by the submariners. Unfortunately, the horror and outrage over the loss of passenger lives would soon dissipate as such events became more commonplace.
The manifest we had on this page for grampa Domenico traveling on the Trojan Prince in 1901 appears to have been the wrong Nicola Di Domenico. It seems there are two other crossings for him. One in 1898 and another in 1902. Those manifests are now in the album.
